Max J. Madrid (1967 – 2012)

We at Modrall Sperling are deeply saddened that Max Madrid, a stalwart of our litigation practice, passed away well before his time on May 9, 2012, after a valiant battle with cancer. We remember Max as a fierce, loving and courageous friend and colleague – he inspired us all.

Max was raised in New Mexico. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico and his masters and law degrees with high distinction from the University of Texas. He joined Modrall Sperling in 1993. He practiced primarily in the areas of education law, employment, civil rights, personal injury defense, insurance, railroad law and worker’s compensation. A former State Bar Commissioner, Max’s fervent work for his clients and the profession was recognized by the Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators and Best Lawyers in America® in Education Law.

While at Modrall Sperling, Max set the standard for advocacy for his clients while upholding a commitment to professionalism. He was one of our best and brightest, and one of the finest trial lawyers we will ever have. It was clear from the beginning of his career that Max would always find a way to succeed, and he refused to give up on anything about which he cared. He lived his life with a passion and fought the cancer with everything he had.

Although Max has received numerous honors as a lawyer, his greatest service has been as a friend and mentor to members of the firm. He was the ultimate fighter, seldom waivered and never gave up. He was a devoted, loving husband and father to his two children. Max was always aware of the importance of family and friends and he lived those ideals to the fullest. He made practicing law seem much more important and made life much more fun. Our thoughts and prayers are with Max’s wife, Cyndi, and his children, Max, Jr. and Isabella. Godspeed, Max.
