Lisa Mann (1951 - 2013)

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Our dear friend and law partner Lisa Mann passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013 after a brave fight with cancer.  Lisa was a New Yorker, with a brilliant mind, a passion for the law, and a heart of gold.  Lisa grew up in New York City and Paris, France.  As a child she became fluent in French and was an accomplished oboist.  Lisa loved history and studied Medieval History in a PhD program at Yale.  In 1985, she graduated first in her class from the UNM School of law.  After clerking in the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, Lisa spent her entire professional career here at Modrall Sperling where she rapidly earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, adversaries, and clients as one of the best litigators in the state.  Lisa was also a skilled writer.  In 2006, she took a sabbatical from work to live in one of her favorite cities, Paris, to write a book about her great-aunt Mollie, an anarchist who played a key role in the development of free speech case law in the United States.  More than anything, Lisa valued her role as a mother.  Despite working long hours, Lisa never missed her children's activities or functions.  Her ability to coordinate motherhood with a successful career inspired all who knew her.  We all know Lisa is strolling along the Champs Elysees, enjoying the Parisian light, drinking a wonderful Bordeaux and strategically planning for the day's adventure.

Go Giants.  We love you Lisa.
