Stuart Butzier Elected Fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers
Modrall Sperling shareholder Stuart Butzier has been elected to the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) Class of 2022. Fellows of the ACOEL are selected for their distinguished experience, high standards of practice, and substantial contributions to the field of environmental law.
ACOEL President, Michael D. Hockley of Spencer Fane LLP, announced the new members with the following statement: “Our new Fellows are among the very best practitioners of environmental law in the country. Collectively, they represent a tremendous depth, breadth, and diversity of experience. We are pleased to welcome them to the College on the basis of their career achievements and thought leadership.”
Stuart has assisted mining, energy, high-tech, industrial and ranching clients throughout his thirty-plus year legal career with Modrall Sperling. He has been recognized by Chambers USA since 2010, and in 2021, Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America named Stuart one of the top 500 natural resources and energy lawyers in the country. Best Lawyers® has named him as “Lawyer of the Year” ten times in Albuquerque or Santa Fe for Environmental, Mining or Natural Resources Law. He has achieved the AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been selected to Southwest Super Lawyers®, being named a Top 25 New Mexico Super Lawyer from 2018 to 2022.
Stuart currently serves as Modrall Sperling’s elected Vice President and is serving a fourth term as a member of the Executive Committee. He is a former Managing Director of the firm’s Santa Fe office and a Past President of the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (formerly Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation).
