Kateri Garcia West coaches UNM team to success at HNBA moot court competition
A team of 2L students from the University of New Mexico School of Law, coached by Modrall Sperling attorney Kateri Garcia West, competed in the Hispanic National Bar Association’s 29th Annual Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition, held March 20-22 in Seattle, Washington.
The competition brought together 32 teams of law students from the nation’s top law schools to argue a case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. Students were challenged to brief and argue their position creatively and persuasively. UNM law student Crestencia Pihlaja was awarded Second Place Best Oral Argument in the competition.
Modrall Sperling attorney Celina Baca, an HNBA Moot Court Alumni, mooted with the team to help them prepare, and shareholder Michelle Hernandez also assisted by serving as a guest judge for one of the team’s moots. The team was also supported by Federal Judges, New Mexico Court of Appeals Judges, and distinguished alumni from UNM School of Law, including Ret. Justice Ed Chavez who served as the team’s advisor. The team thanks Modrall Sperling for its support.
