Modrall Sperling Launches Giving Campaign for 75th Anniversary

75 Years

Modrall Sperling revealed today a new 75th anniversary logo and celebration plans for its 75th anniversary. Established in 1937, the firm has long played a major role in the legal and community life throughout the state of New Mexico. In 2012, Modrall Sperling is dedicating its 75th anniversary year to activities that will positively impact the community for years to come.

Beginning January 2012, Modrall Sperling attorneys and staff will further enhance their already extensive charitable and civic activities to mark the firm’s continuing contribution to the communities in which it operates. The giving campaign, named “75 for 75, Modrall Sperling Gives Back” is an opportunity for attorneys and staff members to receive $75.00 from the firm to use in a way that makes a positive impact on an individual or organization within the state of New Mexico. The only “rule” is that the money cannot be just a donation, encouraging participants to be creative in their giving.

“We want to celebrate this milestone with an inclusive activity for the attorneys and staff, and since our community helped to shape the history of the firm, our 75th anniversary seemed like an appropriate time to give back in a meaningful way,” said R.E. Thompson, President of Modrall Sperling. Modrall Sperling has a proud tradition for community involvement and support, and the giving campaign further underscores our commitment.

The History:

Modrall Sperling originated with a partnership of three historic luminaries in New Mexico Judge John F. Simms, who was admitted to practice law in New Mexico in 1915. After establishing himself as a successful and highly respected lawyer and serving as a Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court, Judge Simms formed a partnership with James R. (“Dick”) Modrall and Augustus T. (“Joe”) Seymour in 1937.

Dick Modrall was a cowboy/ranch foreman turned lawyer and Joe Seymour was a distinguished lawyer subsequently appointed to the New Mexico Supreme Court. The three founding partners were bound by their common desire to provide the highest quality legal services while maintaining impeccable integrity.

The firm hired its first associate, James E. Sperling in 1946, followed shortly by the hiring of Joseph E. Roehl and Daniel Sisk, who also served as a Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court. The firm is officially known as Modrall Sperling Roehl Harris & Sisk but the name has been informally shortened to Modrall Sperling.
