Judge Emil J. Kiehne Appointed to New Mexico Court of Appeals
Emil J. Kiehne, former shareholder at Modrall Sperling, has been appointed to the New Mexico Court of Appeals, filling a position left vacant when Judge James Wechsler retired earlier this year.
Kiehne has been practicing law for almost 20 years, and had diverse experience in both the private and public sector. Prior to his appointment, he was the appellate law practice Chair, and worked on matters involving commercial litigation, torts, healthcare, constitutional law, administrative law and employment. While at Modrall Sperling, Kiehne was named a Tenth Circuit Litigation Star in Benchmark Appellate Litigation, a Future Star in New Mexico by Benchmark Litigation and received recognition from Southwest Super Lawyers from peer review.
A native of New Mexico, Kiehne received his undergraduate degree in History from Harvard University, his Master’s degree in Political Philosophy from the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, and his Juris Doctorate from Notre Dame Law School.
Judge Kiehne joins the ranks of Modrall Sperling attorneys who have become judges, including U.S. District Court Senior Judge James A. Parker, the late Bernalillo County District Judge Frank Allen, and the late New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Daniel Sisk.
