Business as Unusual Pro Bono Virtual Legal Clinic
On January 27, 2021, the Modrall Sperling Law Firm is partnering with the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce to conduct a Business as Unusual Pro Bono Virtual Legal Clinic to assist small businesses in answering legal questions they may have. Last summer, the Modrall Sperling Firm, a member of the Law Firm Anti-Racism Alliance, began seeking opportunities to provide pro bono services to affect institutional racism. Modrall Sperling’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee Chair Michelle Hernandez says that the firm wanted to provide assistance to small businesses because it recognizes the economic disparity that exists among small minority-owned businesses. Hernandez says, “We are excited to work with the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber to help it assist small Albuquerque businesses which have been severely impacted by the economic effects of the COVID-19 restrictions.” President/CEO of the Hispano Chamber Ernie C’deBaca says “So many of our small businesses have legal questions and cannot afford to and are intimidated to contact an attorney. We are grateful to the Modrall Sperling Firm who has offered to provide free assistance to our small business community, most of which are owned by women, immigrants and people of color.” The virtual pro bono clinic will allow participants to schedule a free 30-minute private appointment to speak to an attorney on January 27.
