An Interesting, Educational and Fun Experience
Modrall Sperling’s summer associate program is designed with three main goals in mind:
First, we strive to give applicants a flavor of our exceptionally varied practice. Summer associates generally have the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting legal issues and projects for a diverse set of clients. In addition to researching and drafting legal memoranda, motions and briefs, we provide opportunities to attend depositions, hearings, trials, closings and other types of meetings.
Second, we aim to provide social events – without overkill – that allow us to get to know one another better in an informal setting. The regular events include lunches, a night at the Santa Fe Opera, and a weekend retreat we commonly refer to as the “fishing trip.” In addition, whether your interests include Indian pueblo dances, Isotopes baseball, river rafting, hiking, mountain biking, softball, and yes, golf, we are prepared to get you involved. Our locations in Albuquerque and Santa Fe provide outstanding opportunities for recreation and education as well as a comfortable lifestyle. A common thread that links all of our attorneys is the desire not only to engage in an outstanding law practice, but to have and take the time to pursue outside interests with friends and families.
Finally, we give serious attention to how we can help you progress in your career goals. Each summer associate is assigned an associate and/or shareholder supervisor to help guide you and meet your expectations during the summer. These folks will give practical advice if you have questions or concerns, offer to review your work and make suggestions before you turn in a final product to an assigning attorney, and help get you out to informal lunches. In addition, since we believe that good legal writing is one of the most important and more difficult skills to master, our summer program includes an in-depth review of an early written product with detailed feedback to help you with organization, persuasiveness, stylistics, grammar and citation form. This feedback is given by our best writers in time for summer associates to apply the feedback on subsequent projects. In addition, we encourage our assigning and supervising attorneys to give – and you to seek – feedback on each project completed during the course of your summer with us.
